Why do some parents feel they can cross the line?

Ok I collect umemployment benefits every two weeks and im currently staying with my dad. So one day when im not home, I receive a check in the mail. So a couple days later when I get home I couldn't find my check. So I ask my dad and he said he endorsed my government check (on his free will without my consent) cause he needed money for beer and gas money. But they only way he got away with it is because we got the same first, middle, and last name. So at this point in shocked and pissed off. So im about to go to college and need loans. Would I be wrong if I got his ssn and used him as a co signer since he got perfect credit. Keeping in mind that he took it apon himself to take my government check n cash it. I could've got him in trouble for endorsing my check but I kept my cool. So would I be wrong it I got his ssn and a loan to pay for school?
