When my water or Central heating comes on there is a very loud banging and clicking noise?

really loud like the neighbours will probably hear it, then the boiler cuts out and goes off but the pilot is still alight, any ideas what it might be before i call someone out..its a thorn apollo bout 20 years old. i have it switched off at the wall at present.
